A charming blend of geometry and delicate botanicals, this vintage katagami stencil features a repeating arrangement of rectangular frames accented by slender hanging vines and tiny stylized blossoms. Intricate rows of hand-cut squares form the crisp geometric borders, while fine botanical details create a graceful contrast. Likely used in the katazome dyeing process, this stencil may represent one layer of a multicolor design, with additional stencils applied in succession to build the complete pattern.

Measuring 16" x 12.5", this stencil shows signs of age and use, including surface discoloration, faded handwritten markings, minor creasing, and wear along the edges and corners.

These stencils are still usable but would need a gentle touch and to be moistened before use.  Nowadays, more durable plastic versions are used.
