This listing is for a traditional underkimono (juban in Japanese) designed to be worn beneath a woman's kimono.

A celebration in scarlet, this furisode juban combines sweeping fields of finely worked kanoko (fawn spot) shibori with bold floral motifs created in miura shibori, a loop-binding technique that produces distinctive soft, feathery edges and irregular bursts of white. Woven into the red silk is an elaborate jacquard of floral temari balls and trailing ribbons, motifs associated with happiness, celebration, and wishes for a fortunate future.

Its exceptionally long, flowing sleeves identify it as a furisode-style juban, designed to be worn beneath a young woman's formal furisode kimono.

Underkimono make wonderful robes because they are cut shorter than outer kimono, so they do not have the extra length that is typically folded at the waist for traditional dressing. The lighter weight and streamlined shape make them easy to slip on and wear without added bulk. Perfect for the beach, poolside lounging, summer cover ups, or effortless layering at home or out and about.

The belt is not included, but if you'd like to wear or display this kimono with a traditional obi, browse our selection of OBI BELTS. Although it isn't traditional, if you'd like one of our simple cotton sashes to wear with this, we'll choose a complimenting color (see Add a Sash? above).
