This listing is for one of several mourning (mofuku) kimono - a plain and simple black silk kimono with five family crests - one at the neck, on the back of each sleeve and on either side of the front collar. This listing is for the traditional silk lined version. (Summer ro silk versions are also available on this website.)

These black kimono with no patterning -- no jacquard, no design at all except for the crests --are called mofuku, originally made as mourning kimono and to this day still worn for funeral services with a black obi.

Sizes vary slightly but will fit sizes 6-12 depending on how much of an overlap you're comfortable with at the waist/hips. Please compare your measurements to those given above and note that our measurement is from edge to edge, and includes any overlapping. Extra length would be taken up under the belt at the waist. Watch the video below on how to put on the kimono.

Crests also vary, examples are given in the photos, yours may be different. Sorry, but you can't request a specific crest.

If you'd like a casual sash, you can add that option above.  (You can also browse the traditional obi HERE.)

If you'd like to display this kimono, consider one of our wooden hanging rods - see the Display Section of our shop.
