This listing is for a set of silk yardage pieces originally meant to be made into a traditional formal kimono for a young boy - called a miyamairi.  (Note: not all of the pieces to sew the full garment are included).  Combining these silks in a creative way could create a dramatic wearable (or displayable) art piece!

The dye setting process was not completed, leaving the original fabric stiff and the color work unstable.  So, we washed the fabric which removed excess dye, created a soft grayish background, and resulted in a softer silk that is easy to work with.

The main design features a striking gray hawk soaring among flowering plum branches, stylized pine motifs, and richly patterned decorative forms inspired by traditional designs, blending symbols of resilience, longevity, and the promise of Spring. Set against a light celedon background with elegant shades of charcoal, ivory, violet, sapphire, and sage.

There are four pieces in this set each with a 14" width.  Panel lengths are 58", 56", 48", and 46" for a total of over 5 yards.  

Signs of age may be present, including light wear, small marks, or subtle variations consistent with vintage textiles.
