This listing is for one yard of silk fabric salvaged from a vintage Japanese kimono.

Tiny dashes of color create a beautifully understated rhythm across this vintage woven fabric, giving its earthy brown palette a surprisingly intricate look. The design is built from tiny ikat woven dashes in alternating shades of tan, cocoa, and dark brown, carefully arranged into a fine grid that appears almost solid from a distance and becomes increasingly complex up close. Subtle irregularities within the woven pattern soften the geometry and give the fabric the distinctive depth and character associated with kasuri textiles.

The brown coloring and tiny weave is typical of dorozome (mud dyed) textiles, where the iron in the mud helps to cure and strengthen the silk fibers.  See video below for how this is done.

Signs of age may be present, including light wear, small marks, or subtle variations consistent with vintage textiles.

Great for piecework, especially when combined with other vintage kimono remnants.
