This listing is for a traditional Japanese hair ornament called kanzashi.  Kanzashi is a generic term for a wide variety of these accessories - including long, rigid hairpins, barrettes, fabric flowers, combs and fabric hair ties - which are worn in traditional Japanese hairstyles.  Click here to learn more about the many forms of kanzashi.

This kanzashi is a kogai (sword) style hair piece - possibly made from bakelite, which was popular after WWII. Kogai accessories are wider at the ends and pull apart at the middle like the unsheathing of a sword, then come back together when placed in the hair. This accessory is yellow at both ends and black in the middle.
