This is a pair of formal hakama for a man. Learn more about this type of garment below.

Understated and refined, this man's skirt-style hakama features a finely woven gray grid pattern that creates subtle texture and a crisp, tailored appearance. The back retains its original hera, the rigid tab that tucks into the obi to help secure the hakama in place; its inscription reads "Matsuo Gofukuten", meaning "Matsuo Kimono Shop," an appealing remnant of the shop that originally sold the garment.

34" Length

There are signs of age with some areas of overall discoloration.

Hakama are traditional Japanese garments worn over a kimono, recognized for their wide, flowing shape and distinctive pleats. There are two main styles: pants style, which are constructed like very wide-legged pants, and skirt style, which have a continuous, skirt-like, undivided shape. Both styles create a similar graceful silhouette when worn and have historically been used for formal dress, ceremonies, martial arts, and other traditional occasions.
