This listing is for a full bolt of traditional Japanese fabric intended to be made into a fukuro or semi-formal obi sash.  See below for more detail on its construction, patterning and traditional use.

The weaving of this bolt is quite unusual!  On the front side, the patterning is quite subtle gold-on-gold with a bit of pucker where the floral pattern appears.  But looking at the backside, we see that threads made from gold-covered paper were used to very subtly add more sparkle to the front design.  (No doubt it's hard to imagine that those gold "threads" are paper, but notice they are thin and flat. See video below for how this is done.)

This full bolt is 5 yards long and is mostly solid gold but with two sections of 16-inch patterning.

The weave that is both pliable and sturdy – perfect for being tied into an elaborate bow at the back of a kimono, and just a perfect as table or wall décor. Plenty of fabric to convert into home décor (pillows!) or an elegant jacket or coat…?
