This listing is for a silk wall hanging made from woven remnants of a formal Japanese obi.  

The main fabric is a golden scene of travellers in the Edo Period along with "post card" scenes of the landscape.  Look closely to appreciate the detailed weaving of the deer, kanji and garments.

The highly reflective gold sheen and the flat weave suggests that this piece was woven with weft that are actually gold-leaf-covered paper. Yes, the paper would have been cut into incredibly thin stripes and were laid flat across the loom.  The close-up photos show the narrow, flat "threads". See video below about how this is done (at 1:46 you see an example of gold-coated paper cut for weaving).

The frame is actually more obi fabric likely taken from a vintage maru style (very formal) obi. Silvery-white accents catch the light against the dark olive green.

The entire hanging is actually slightly padded and might have been meant as a table display . It could be framed in a shadowbox or sewn to a backing to hang.
