This listing is for a set of silk yardage pieces originally meant to be made into a traditional formal kimono for a young boy - called a miyamairi.  (Note: not all of the pieces to sew the full garment are included).  Combining these silks in a creative way could create a dramatic wearable (or displayable) art piece!

The dye setting process was not completed, leaving the original fabric stiff and the color work unstable.  So, we washed the fabric which removed excess dye, created a soft gray-blue, green, or purple background, and resulted in muted colors and a softer silk that is easy to work with.

The main design features a magnificent kabuto samurai helmet adorned with a dragon, surrounded by elegant pine, bamboo, plum blossoms, and treasured lucky items including the magic mallet, money bag, and invisibility cloak, all enduring symbols of prosperity, resilience, protection, and good fortune. Soft sage, lavender, and muted blue tones create a refined, sophisticated palette that beautifully complements the detailed motifs.

There are five pieces in this set each with a 14" width (though some panels are actually two panels stitched together). See photos for details.  Panel lengths vary from 32" to 13" for a total of over 4 yards.

Signs of age may be present, including light wear, small marks, or subtle variations consistent with vintage textiles.
