This listing is for a vintage Japanese futon cover or large household cloth. These were often used for bedding or protective coverings, but today it is a collectible example of Japanese folk textile artistry valued for its craftmanship, indigo coloration, and striking visual impact.

Bold and wonderfully graphic, this indigo cotton textile pairs charming Daruma dolls with crisp geometric diamond medallions across four stitched panels. The softly feathered kasuri ikat imagery gives the design its distinctive character, while the Daruma, famous for righting himself when tipped, traditionally symbolize perseverance, resilience, and good fortune.

Significant fading, wear, blemishes, small holes, and irregularities remain throughout, adding an authentic wabi-sabi character to this well-loved textile. It began as a humble household item and was well-used and likely well-loved, we hope it finds a new home where it will be appreciated.
