This listing is for two panels of a vintage Japanese futon cover. These were often used for bedding or protective coverings, but today it is a collectible example of Japanese folk textile artistry valued for its craftmanship, indigo coloration, and striking visual impact.

A charming fragment of old Japan, this indigo futon cover remnant features alternating ikat woven motifs of a plump, stylized sparrow and bold bamboo forms across two stitched cotton panels. The softly feathered edges characteristic of kasuri weaving give the imagery a wonderfully rustic quality, while the sparrow brings a lively touch of the natural world. Bamboo traditionally symbolizes strength and resilience.

Signs of age include scattered blemishes, fading, and general wear that add to its timeworn character. It began as a humble household item and was well-used and likely well-loved, we hope it finds a new home where it will be appreciated.
