What is an obi? The Japanese kimono obi is a kimono belt (or obi sash) worn with a traditional Japanese kimono – a kimono accessory that can raise or lower the formality of the ensemble. Japanese obi are decorative only (under-layer ties keep the kimono closed) and are as stunning around the waist as they are as interior décor.
