This listing is for a vintage Japanese haori kimono jacket that has been embellished with a painted motif by Taylor Faidley (see her bio below).

This haori is a rich, dark mauve with a woven star hemp pattern that shimmers in the light. On the back Taylor has painted two large cherry blossoms (sakura in Japanese) in shades of pink with delicate yellow-tipped stamen. The florals continue on the front of the jacket. A single family crest appears as the neck - it is the nine-star crest, which is the first we've seen in over 25 years of selling kimono. (We have seen five- and seven-star crests before, but this is the first with nine!)

Taylor Faidley is an up-and-coming young artist based in rural Pennsylvania. What might have started with crayon drawings covering the refrigerator soon became a calling that spans dozens of media. "I've pursued art for as long as I can remember. As a child I loved drawing pictures of my family. Now I work with a wide variety of materials: silk painting, acrylics, pencil drawing, digital design, felting, 3D art pieces - and now I'm painting on vintage kimono! I've always loved Japan and any kind of animation. I draw inspiration from anime and hope to be an animator myself one day. Drawing characters is my passion, but koi and cherry blossoms are never far behind. My designs are always made with care and the hope that someone will enjoy them just as much as I do."
