This listing is for a vintage Japanese haori jacket that would have been worn on top of a vintage kimono on a chilly day. It features shibori - Japanese tie-dye - and likely took weeks just to wrap the tiny bunches of fabric to create the pattern. See videos below on how shibori is done as well as on the different styles of kimono jackets.

This haori has a lovely light yellow-cream background with bursts of color from the scattered plum blossoms (ume) in bright yellow and orange. Some light green accents as well.

Note that there is a 2" tuck at each shoulder which can be let out if needed. These tucks are the traditional way to alter a kimono for a smaller frame. The jacket has a puckered texture all over, with some variation in size and placement of the puckers to showcase the florals.

Haori do not cross over or tie with a sash, like a kimono does - they are meant to be worn open to reveal a bit of what is worn beneath. An optional accessory is the haori himo - the little woven ties that are hooked to the little fabric loops that you'll find on at the mid-front of the haori - but they are sold separately. We'll select one that goes with this haori if you pick the Add A Himo Pair option above. To choose your own, CLICK HERE.
