| NEW Groom's Hakama - $120 includes shipping |
|
ITEM NUMBER: GARHAK
|
| New (not vintage) formal striped version of the traditional pleated pants typically worn by Japanese grooms. Long ties, with deep side slits that create an "open" sizing, skirt style (which makes wearing a kimono underneath more manageable) and a plastic tab that fits into the obi in the back. Longer in the back (45") than in the front (41") to account for the obi bow in the back, the hem should fall between ankle and foot, but they can be worn at or below the waist, which can help adjust the length. (If these are not long enough for you, check out our custom made hakama) |

Vintage Obi Jime - Cord Belts
Assorted and as available - $12 each
|
|
ITEM NUMBER: 0109Obijime
|
|
These unique obi accessories are the finishing touch to the traditional obi sash, tied on top of the obi with a decorative knot at the front. Obijime color and design should compliment the ensemble rather than match the color. Other contemporary uses of the obi jime are as a cord belt with jeans or dress or modified into fashion accessories such as hair bands, purse straps, lanyards, glasses holders, jewelry and more! Lengths vary but average about 55". Materials might be cotton, silk, rayon, metalic, or synthertic. Each is one of a kind, and our inventory changes often. Current inventory is as follows (click on the name to see photos of the obijime; choose by color when ordering):

Linen Look Noren
- $18 |
|
ITEM NUMBER: 0109Noren |
|
Great as a sheer window covering,
an airy room divider, or studio
decor. Feels like linen
but we are unsure of the fiber content. A light tan
color with an open,
semi-sheer weave. These noren are new, not vintage, so are
in excellent condition. Two
panels stitched together at the top with a sleeve casing
for a bamboo pole or even a regular curtain rod. These noren
soften up in the wash but also overdye well (get soft tones with
RIT dye in the washing machine!). Two 17.5" panels make
it 35" acrosss and 59" long. |

"Sunday School
Han Juban" Woman's Half "Slip"-$60
|
|
ITEM NUMBER: 1008Misc10 |
|
Fun
and festive juvenile print of kids and dolls with a European-style
village scene (complete with church spires!), sailboats,
balloons, and elephants! Great
primary color palette. This is meant to be a half-slip layer
worn under a kimono, and the waist portion is a muslin
cotton. But for the adventurous woman, it can be a wrap
skirt. No ties on this one so you'll need a sash, and we'll include the green
silk one pictured. Cotton with cotton
lining. Check measurements for wrap overlap, but could fit
up to a size 10. |

"Taiko Han
Juban" Woman's Half "Slip"-$60

ITEM NUMBER: 1008Misc8 |

Traditional taiko
drum and bountiful floral print in this half "slip"
meant to be worn under a kimono, with a wide
cream-colored cotton muslin band at the waist that would
be hidden under an obi. But for the adventurous woman, this is
a wrap skirt, which includes ties
at the waist but could
also use a wide sash in an accent color. Cotton with cotton lining. Check
measurements for wrap overlap, but could fit up to a size 10. |

Brown Silk Hakama - $60 |
|
ITEM NUMBER: 0502HAK1 |
|
Make
a fashion statement! These pleated pants are typically worn
by Japanese men for formal occasions. Deep
side slits make them "one side fits all" , with
length typically around 34" (that's the outseam (hip to
heel), not the inseam!) Colors vary but are typically dark brown. They are
available in both pant and skirt style - which still has slits
on the side, but no pantlegs, just the skirt. (If these are not
long enough for you, check out our custom
made hakama) |

Sakiori Summer Blanket - $550 |
|
ITEM NUMBER: 0506SummerSakiOri |
|
Wonderful assembly
of five rag
weave pieces (former obi?) in an array of colors, tightly
woven and holding up excellently given the likely age of this
blanket (maybe 1950's or earlier?). The backing
is a bright orange/red/black plaid cotton, which contrasts with
the more natural
tones of the top. Sakiori is a rag
weave technique used mainly in rural Japan, and common in
the pre-and post war periods when materials were scarce and nothing
was wasted. The rags for this blanket would most likely have
been worn out kimonos. These are hard to find and heavy to ship,
but oh-so-nice to have! |

Sakiori Winter Blanket - $600 |
|
ITEM NUMBER: 0506WinterSakiOri |
|
The weight
and the weave
are sure to keep you warm this winter! It's a sakiori blanket
made from five
panels of rag weave sewn together with a green
stripe down each panel. We think this weaving
was created as a blanket, rather than former obi panels because
of the green bands that create an intentional design. A heavy
cotton padding, backing
is a cotton maroon, and the layers are tacked with a single quilting
stitch. An excellent addition to your collection of Japanese
textiles... |
