kanako shibori, associated with Kyoto. Wonderful gold
leaf accent at the borders, and the pattern sweeps
onto the inner lining panels, which, of course, are never
seen by the public. |

with typical long sleeves
(38"), a subtle, feminine
color scheme of greens, golds, blue and a splash of pink
against a soft lemon yellow silk . The background silk is a diamond grid jacquard
that shows through the patterning of florals and pine boughs
in some places, adding depth. Gold
couching creates a border for some of the cloud features
and many of the blossoms have embroidered
embellishment. Two
small blemishes on the inside right panel that would not
show when belted. |

Dark" Woman's Furisode Kimono $225 |

Formal "ball
gown" style of the traditional kimono, with typical
long sleeves (38")
and a somewhat unusual (for a furisode) overall patterning of
camillas. Also unusual is the black background, but it does make
the floral -
especially the white blossoms - really pop forward. The artwork
is yuzen style
resist dying, noted by the white outline to the florals but
the almost-hidden
branches that connect the blossoms were painted in afterwards
and have no white edges. Masterful! The silk has a lightening
jacquard that shows through the imagery. |

design shows the red blossoms appear only when surrounded
by a gold-couched
cloud border - the other blossoms are green -- giving the
pattern a layered,
dimensional effect. Note the blossom-shaped, couched designs
filled with shibori
kanoko dots. |

"Shibori in

A very refined woman no doubt
commissioned this beauty - a
cloudlike stream shibori design flows along the hem, and
hovering above the stream are fluttering butterflies,
birds, and ferns, all hand embroidered as delicate as can
be. The shibori patterning
combines the kanoko (fawn's back) dotting as well as as a basketweave
design, all bordered with shibori
dots. The fabric is a slightly textured
silk with a dreamy
drape that makes this a luxurious robe. |
